2014 lambing season begins!

Two had twins last night... big, healthy ram lambs.  Steve went down to check on them about 10:30 pm, the first sack was hanging, so we brought her up to the lambing lean-to.  She didn't need any help, except the first lamb was a little slow coming out, so Steve helped gently pulling.  She was busy cleaning up him when all of a sudden I glanced at her back end and the second one was almost on the ground. We were in bed by 11:30 pm or so, but the adrenaline was pretty much flowing, so sleep was a while coming.  I was really proud of Lyndsey.  She's progressed from a 14 year old who couldn't even touch a "wet newborn", much less watch a birth to being in the stall as they deliver, and helping dry off and sitting down trying to get them to nurse.

So now, we wait and see who's next, since no one is following the calendar dates that I marked down.  I'm hoping it will only take a couple of weeks, not a month and a half for 4 ewes, like last year did.  I'll keep you posted.

  1. Sounds as if the only thing that could have gone better was if the babies were both ewes! In the pictures mama and little ones all look healthy. That's the best!

  2. Healthy looking little guys! Good for Lyndsey!! (And you....)
